The search for the dead is not yet over but the blame game has begun after Italy’s worst rail crash in nearly 25 years. Two more bodies have been found bringing the death toll to 16 followingyesterday’s collision in heavy fog between a freight train and a passenger train near the northern city of Bologna.
Search and rescue teams disamantling one passenger carriage said they could not be sure of what they would find inside.
The crash was believed to have been caused by a switching problem which sent both trains onto the same track.
The ageing tracks have been down for modernisation for years, and Italy’s centre right government blamed the left for slowing down the process while it was in power.
