Future of A380, the world's largest airliner in doubt Airbus says, if Emirates don't confirm an order for 36 of them
ADVERTISEMENTAirbus has confirmed that if a deal to sell dozens of its giant A380 airliners to Emirates eventually falls through it will have to stop making them.
In November Emirates postponed an order for 38 of the planes which can carry up to 853 people, making them the largest airliners in the world.
At the moment Airbus says it plans to make just eight a year, the minimum to ensuring production of the airliner breaks even.
Airbus has also stated that Emirates is the only airline in the world that is in a position to order that many A380s.
Many airports have had to adapt their runways to receive the A380 which began flying ten years ago and was designed to rival Boeing's iconic Jumbo Jet.
Fifteen A380s were made in 2017 but next year only eight are due to be built.
But overall Airbus managed to beat its industry rival Boeing last year in terms of the number of planes it delivered to buyers - a record total of 763.
