EU agriculture ministers discuss egg scandal
ADVERTISEMENTContaminated eggs have been found in forty countries worldwide, the DPA news agency reported on Tuesday.
They have traces of fipronil, an insecticide that can cause organ failure in humans if consumed in large enough quantities.
National regulators worry, though, many have already entered the food chain.
EU agriculture ministers are discussing the scandal at a meeting in Tallinn, Estonia.
Officials in Belgium and the Netherlands traced the source of the insecticide to a Dutch cleaning product suppliers
The two men who ran the company were arrested last month.
Twenty-four EU countries are said to be affected.
DPA cited a European Commission spokeswoman who said the only EU countries not to be hit were Lithuania, Portugal, Cyprus and Croatia.
