The Republicans have confirmed  pollster predictions and have made early gains in the US midterm elections. It has been a bad poll for the Democrats in which it appears the Republicans have seized control of the House of Representatives and themselves lost ground in the Senate.

 

With the obvious rightward shift in the political landscape, President Obama and his party must prepare for future battles in Congress.
