Hosted by Kristen Bell, this year's SAG Awards will have all-female presenters for the first time.
ADVERTISEMENTUnlike the Golden Globes, a black dress is not the preferred attire, but this year's Screen Actors Gild Awards will focus on women with Kristen Bell hosting the ceremony.
The show's executive producer, Kathy Connell, says the female-centric program was made prior to the 'Time's Up' movement.
"The SAG Awards are going to be celebrating women this year. We decided that a while back," says Connell. "That's not to say, we don't love our men, we do. But, we wanted to celebrate women, so this year, all of our presenters for all of our awards will be presented by women."
Nominee Laura Gomez says even without the black dresses the awards are sending a meaningful message.
"I think it's more of a statement with the choice of having a woman hosts or women presenters," she explains. " So, it's another way of making a political statement, which is as strong if not more, I think."
All 13 acting awards will be presented by women - another first for the SAG Awards. As will the 'I Am An Actor' segments.
Men won't be excluded totally from the ceremony. They will be present when the films nominated for best ensemble are introduced.
