Ars Electronica Festival explores Artificial Intelligence in Linz.

The Ars Electronica Festival has opened its doors in the Austrian city of Linz. Its aim is to tackle important and relevant questions on the future, with a focus on art, technology and society.

This year’s theme is artificial intelligence… And there are robots everywhere, with the machines even becoming artists themselves.

Gerfried Stocker is the festival’s artistic director.

“Art forces us to think beyond borders, to question what the industry tells us we can do with technology. Is that really everything or can we do more?“ he asked.

Last year’s festival attracted some 85,000 people. Visitors this year can sample exhibitions and events throughout the city until September 11.

Euronews reporter, Philip Artelt, added:

“If I pick up this phone, there is a real telephone like this ringing somewhere in the world and I can talk to a real human. Artworks such as these remind us that human beings are what is really important in a world awash with artificial intelligence.”
