A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.1 has rocked central Mexico killing at least 119 people and toppling buildings in the capital.
According to the US geological survey, the epicentre of the quake was located in the central Puebla state, close to Mexico city.
Rescue teams have rushed to the hardest-hit areas. It’s feared many are trapped beneath the rubble,
President Enrique Peña Nieto has urged people to avoid the streets so emergency services can easily reach the injured.
With heavily populated affected the authorities fear the death toll will rise.
The earthquake comes on the anniversary of the devastating 1985 tremour that left 10,000 people dead and just a few days after another measuring 8.1 which killed 98 people.
