First an earthquake, then a hurricane and now a storm. Mexico is being pummeled by natural disasters. A second potential hurricane (‘Max’) has now been downgraded to a tropical storm, but authorities have still warned of heavy rains, and possible flash floods and landslides in the coastal states of Oaxaca and Guerrero.
It has forced Mexico to withdraw an offer of aid extended to the US during Hurricane Harvey. The government says it needs the resources. A week ago, at least 98 people were killed in an 8.1-magnitude earthquake of the Pacific Coast and at least two people died after Hurricane Katia made landfall last Friday (September 8).
