Protests in Kashmir broken up by Indian police

Anti-India protesters carrying Pakistani flags clashed with security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir after morning prayers for Eid al-Adha, the Muslim festival of sacrifice.

Rock-throwing residents took to the streets on Saturday morning and government forces fired shotgun pellets and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Anti-India sentiment runs deep in Kashmir’s mostly Muslim population and most people support the rebels’ cause against Indian rule. India accuses Pakistan of arming and training the rebels, which Pakistan denies.
