Total Eclipse of the Charts

She waited 34 years for her moment: Bonnie Tyler was on a cruise ship when she finally sung her 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during an actual eclipse.

In the week leading up to the event, downloads of the song were reportedly up by over 500%, despite the fact that its lyrics have nothing whatsoever to do with the solar phenomenon.

Sales of specialist eclipse glasses rocketed in the US amongst the 12 million people living beneath its path.

The moment when the moon blocked out the light of the sun lasted about 2 and a half minutes in any one place, two minutes less than the total duration of Tyler’s song.
