Sammy Wilson (DUP) on Brexit: No checkpoints needed at the Irish border
Will Brexit put at risk the peace process in Northern Ireland? Will Brexit bring back “a hard border” and thereby triggering an economic downturn for Northern Ireland? “No”, says MP Sammy Wilson (DUP) and invites the Euronews team to his country house to give some straigthforward answers. The lawmaker is a leading member of the unionist DUP, in charge of all Brexit related issued. The DUP backed Brexit, so does Wilson: Leaving the European Union brings advantages for the UK, he claimes, including for Northern Ireland. Wilson served as Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1986 – 1987 and again from June 2000 to June 2001, the first person from the DUP to hold the office. He has also served as Minister of Finance and Personnel and Minister of the Environment in the Northern Ireland Executive.
