Israel struck at Syrian army artillery positions on Wednesday near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The military said it was in retaliation for at least two rockets fired at its forces from Syria the previous day.
The Israeli strikes came before an attack on Israeli forces by Hezbollah which killed two soldiers and injured seven.
The escalation of violence on Israel’s northern border comes ten days after an Israeli strike in Syria.
The attack on territory controlled by Syrian government forces killed a senior Iranian military figure and several Lebanese Hezbollah fighters.
Last week supporters of the militant group turned out in southern Lebanon as some of the funerals were held.
