Several missing after powerful Typhoon Phanfone hits Japan

A powerful typhoon made landfall in central Japan on Monday morning. Authorities issued evacuation advisories for more than 400,000 people in the storm’s path. The high winds and heavy rains also hit the Japanese capital Tokyo, causing disruption for commuters.

One member of the US Air Force was killed on Sunday after being swept out to sea, two other airmen are still missing. A surfer in Kanagawa Prefecture has also disappeared.
