US retail giant Toys 'R' Us says it will sell or close all its American stores in coming months, a move that puts up to 33,000 jobs in jeopardy.

It had already announced that it would close its UK operations in the next six weeks, putting some 3,000 people out of work.

The 70-year-old toy store chain filed for bankruptcy in September.

The company is expected to go into liquidation in France, Spain, Poland and Australia and to sell its operations in Central Europe, Canada and Asia.
