Local hero takes gold after opponent is disqualified

Morocco’s Assmaa Niang gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about with a golden performance on day two of the International Judo Federation Grand Prix in Agadir.

Her victory in the under 70 kilo category came after her Puerto Rican opponent Maria Perez was disqualified for a forbidden action.

The President of the Moroccan Judo Federation, Chafik El Kettani, presented the honours.

Vedat Albayrak from Turkey took the men's under 81 kilo gold in style, scoring an Ippon against Belgium's Matthias Casse.

Andreja Leski began her final against Australia’s Katharina Haecker with a penalty for passivity, but the Slovenian bounced back with two waza-aris to take the under 63 kilo contest.

The vice president of the Olympic committee of Morocco Kamal Lahlou made the presentation.

And Bilal Ciloglu from Turkey took the men's under 73 kilos gold with a waza-ari in the very last second of his bout against the experienced Russian Musa Mogushkov, who is 11 years his senior.

His medal was presented by Souss-Massa governor Ahmed Hajji.
