English clubs hit back of net with record-breaking transfers

Coutinho may be leaving Liverpool, but other English football clubs scored big as the transfer window closed.

With the transfer window set to close, Liverpool bagged the second-highest fee ever paid for a footballer. Philippe Coutinho signed a five-year contract worth more than 176 million euros with La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Worth more than 176 million euros, the deal brings to a close eight months of negotiations and failed bids.

Manchester United have snapped up striker Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. The Chilean hit the back of the net 60 times in 122 games for the Gunners since being signed in 2014. s

Aymeric Laporte

French defender Aymeric Laporte is making the move from northern Spain to Manchester City. The Athletic Bilbao player was signed for a club record fee of around 65 million euros.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Another club record sum was paid for the self-titled ‘crazy kid’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Borussia Dortmund striker is off to Arsenal after signing for around 64 million euros.
