At 33 he becomes the latest star name to join the Chinese football league.

One of the stars of Barcelona FC, Javier Mascherano, is to leave the club in a big-money move to the Chinese league.

In eight years at the club the 33-year-old won 18 trophies, including four La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues.

In England he played for West Ham and then Liverpool, who he left for Spain in 2010 for nearly 20 million euros.

''I've been very lucky, seven years ago I came here to accomplisg a dream and now it's time to wake up.The dream has ended. it lasted more than could have expected, but now it's time to say goodbye. Toleave with all these people around me, it's the best that could ever have happened to me," he said.

It was a bittersweet, emotional farewell for a player who turned out 334 times for Barca, the fourth-highest total for a foreign player at the club.

He joins Hebei Fortune, managed by Manuel Pellegrini.
