Gunmen brought terror to the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul overnight, shooting at guests and staff and taking hostages
ADVERTISEMENTAfghan Special Forces have ended an overnight siege at a luxury hotel in Kabul that was stormed by gunmen.
All three attackers have been killed, according to the government.
But at least five other people died in a siege lasting 12 hours. At least six people have been injured.
The ambush began on Saturday evening when armed men burst into the Intercontinental Hotel, shooting at guests and staff and taking hostages.
Dozens of foreigners were among those evacuated from the building which was reportedly hosting an Information Technology conference.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the raid, just days after a US embassy warning of possible attacks on hotels in the Afghan capital.
The raid was the latest in a long series of attacks which have underlined the city's precarious situation and the ability of militants to mount high profile operations aimed at undermining confidence in the Western-backed government.
