New figures reveal car sales in Britain have now fallen five percent so far this year, on track for the first yearly drop since 2011.

Amid lower consumer confidence and question marks over the future of diesel, data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that overall sales fell just over 11 percent in November, with diesel cars heavily hit.

But, on the other hand, new registrations of alternative fuel vehicles have jumped by a third, compared to the same time last year.

As eco-friendly cars take off, sales of diesel vehicles dropped by just over 16 percent between January and November.

The sale of new vehicles that run on petrol rose just over three percent in the same period.
