Britain’s Prince Harry and US actress Meghan Markle have made their first public appearance together since announcing their engagement. They posed for the press in the grounds of Kensington Palace – where they’ll make their first home together at Nottingham Cottage. Although used to the spotlight, the Suits star appeared happy to let her fiancé do the talking. Harry said he was "thrilled" with the engagement.

He popped the question earlier this month, but no specific date has been given for the big day. What we do know is that it will take place in spring, 2018. The gold ring was designed by Harry himself. It contains a stone chosen in Botswana, which is a place said to hold special significance for both and is flanked by two diamonds from his late mother Princess Diana’s personal collection.

The engagement is a series of firsts for the royal family; 36-year-old Meghan is American, mixed race and a divorcee. Her interest in campaigning, however, puts her on very common ground with Harry. She is a UN advocate for women's empowerment and has spoken out in support of gender equality and humanitarian causes.
