Shoppers in South Africa line up for Black Friday bargains

Shoppers in South Africa got up early to make the most of Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

In the town of Umhlanga, north of Durban, hundreds of people lined up outside a shopping centre waiting to get in. When the doors finally opened, the crowd stormed the store in the hope of bagging a bargain.

Initially a U.S. phenomenon, the concept of Black Friday – which falls on the day after Thanksgiving – has spread around the world in recent years as retailers slash prices to lure customers ahead of the holiday season.
