One of cycling’s three grand tours will begin outside Europe for the first time next year.

The first three stages of the 2018 Giro d’Italia will be held in Israel, with a time trial in Jerusalem on day one.

Nearly 180 of the world’s best cyclists are expected travel to the country next year.

Although the Giro has started outside Italy 11 times, it is the first time the race has left Europe in its 101-year history.
