More than two hundred kilos of pure cocaine has been seized in the southern Italian province of Reggio Calabria.
216 kg of the drug was shipped from South America to the port of Gioia Tauro. It was divided into 200 small packages and stuffed into 10 larger bags containing granules of rubber.
On Saturday 218 kg of cocaine was seized at the same harbour.
The operation was led by the Italian Financial Guard and Customs Agency and was coordinated by the anti-mafia prosecutor.
Officials in Reggio Calabria estimate the total amount of cocaine seized since the beginning of the year to be around 16 hundred kilos, with a market value of more than 650 million Euros.
