BEIRUT (Reuters) – Lebanon’s government on Thursday discussed more than doubling the capacity of Beirut international airport, Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri’s office said. Ministers met aviation officials to discuss increasing capacity to 12 million passengers a year and then 19 million in the longer term, up from a current six million, the office added. The statement gave no timeframe for the proposed increase. Other improvements to the airport including a better intercom system and additional back-up power generators to ensure continuous power supply for runway lighting were also discussed, it said.
