An Airbnb guest has caused €10,000 in damage after renting a flat in Paris

A woman who rented out her studio on Airbnb was shocked to find her home strewn with excrement, urine and rubbish.

The cost of the damage to the Parisian apartment has been estimated at €10,000 by a building firm.

The renter returned home to find warped flooring, the front door jammed, the shower room and toilet badly damaged and the floor covered in rubbish after the Canadian renter’s stay.

The homeowner, known as Laurie S, posted photos of her damaged flat on Facebook.

She said her studio had been transformed into a “vulgar squat covered in excrement, urine and an unimaginable amount of empty bottles of alcohol”.

The Frenchwoman hadn’t met the renter herself but said her neighbours found him perfectly “nice”.

Laurie S took to Facebook after Airbnb said they would get back to her regarding compensation.

Airbnb have since said they would send an expert to evaluate the damage as the Frenchwoman’s story gained attention in the French media.

The home-sharing app told France 3 that this type of experience was “very rare” and that only 0.009% of 30 million flats rented on the site last year were seriously damaged.

Airbnb offers a ‘Host Guarantee’ which allows homeowners to receive up to €651,600 in compensation.
