British veteran entertainer Bruce Forsyth has died aged 89.

The former host of hit-BBC television show Strictly Come Dancing was previously unwell and spent time in hospital earlier this year for a severe chest infection.

He was for some time Britain’s best-paid TV star and dominated television light entertainment between the 1960s and 80s, presenting shows including Play Your Cards Right and The Generation Game.

Forsyth’s career, which started aged 14, spanned eight decades and saw him work into his eighties.

He started out as a variety performer and went on to present popular Saturday night TV.
