EU contemplating sanctions over Polish rule of law row

Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union is sometimes referred to as an “atomic bomb”.
This is because it can lead to the suspension of voting rights in the European Council, which brings together the leaders of the Member States.

Poland is facing such a threat because of reforms to the judicial system, which call into question the fundamental principles of the European Union.

The argument was presented by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans.

Anti-glyphosate rally in Brussels

In the last five months, 1.3 million people from many EU Member States have signed a petition in favor of banning the herbicide glyphosate.

Used primarily to kill weeds, it is potentially carcinogenic according to the World Health Organization.

Several non-governmental organizations demand that it be banned and they staged a protest in Brussels, ahead of the technical discussions in the European Commission.

Brexit talks: the progress so far

After four days of discussion, the second round of Brexit negotiations comes to an end with a press conference today.

Michel Barnier, for the European Commission, and David Davis, for the United Kingdom, will present the progress so far. Euronews’ Brussels bureau will cover the updates in detail.
