Erasmus turns 30

Thirty years old and still going strong.

Some four million European students over the past three decades have studied or trained abroad.

From as many as thirty three countries.

It is all part of the EU’s Erasmus exchange programme.

The scheme celebrates its official birthday on Thursday.

Officially, the goal is to increase mobility across Europe and improve your job prospects.

Unofficially, it’s an opportunity to take a year off from study at home, travel, enjoy yourself and maybe meet your significant other.

EU figures released in 2014 found that the programme had been responsible for more than one million babies
