Cannes 2017 line-up announced

18 films will compete for the prestigious Palme D’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in France.

The line-up event has been announced for the event in the French Riviera resort, which this year will take place between the 17 and 28 of May.

Among the films announced on Thursday were:

  • “Happy End” by the austrian Michael Haneke
  • “Beguiled” by Sofia Coppola
  • “Rodin” by the french Jacques Doillon
  • “L’Amant double” by Francois Ozon
  • “Wonderstruck” by Todd Hayes
  • “Le Redoutable” by Michel Hazanavicius
  • “120 beats per minute” by Robin Campillo
  • “Okja” by korean Bong Joon-Ho
  • “In the Fade” by the German-Turkish Fatih Akin
  • “Loveless” by Andreï Zviaguintsev

Which stars will be there?

US actors parading on the red carpet will include Joaquin Phoenix, Colin Farrell, Julianne Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson.

They will be joined by French stars Vincent Lindon, Isabelle Huppert,Jean-Louis Trintignant, Louis Garrel and Adèle Haenel.

What about security?

“France is still under a state of emergency,” said Festival President Pierre Lescure.

“The same precautions as last year will be in place.”

What they are saying

“We are going through a political phase in France with the presidential election which will take place just before Cannes. We hope the festival will provide the opportunity to talk about nothing but cinema,” Festival President Pierre Lescure said in a press conference.
