European manufacturing feels the benefit of global economic wind

The outlook for manufacturing in Europe is looking better despite EU economies generating contradictory economic data.

Inflation was down in March by more than expected, while retail sales jumped in Germany, and across the EU’s 28 members there is little in the way of a general trend or shared objective to help guide the ECB in its policy.

Manufacturing growth hit an almost six-year-high as order books bulged in Germany, while there was growth in France and Italy too, more evidence of a strengthening world economy.

Factories in China also reported healthy manufacturing output despite missing forecasts in a Bank of Japan report that also noted improved business sentiment in the Middle Kingdom.
