Euronews spoke at Berlin’s ITB to Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General at Tourism Malaysia about the prospects for the tourist year 2017 in the South East Asian country.

“We had 26.7 million tourists last year. That puts us just after Thailand. I believe Thailand had many more visitors. But our visitors are generally people who are moving into the regions, and we are looking forward to expanding the base, to have more tourists this year. Our target this year is 31 million. We are hoping that we will get long-haul tourists like Europe. We are working with all the other airlines to insure that accessibility is convenient and possible despite some of the difficulties that we have today. And we will also be working with various tour operators to fit a few destinations together.”
