It was feared many people had been swept away by an avalanche which struck on a busy blue run near the popular resort in the French Alps. Rescuers now think no was caught up in the emergency.

The all-clear has been given in the resort of Tignes in the French Alps.

An avalanche swept across a busy blue ski run near the popular resort on Tuesday morning.

Initial reports suggest two groups of skiers were reportedly on the run when the avalanche struck.

Emergency services raced to the scene, their efforts hampered by poor visibility.

The avalanche risk at Tignes is four on a scale of 5.
