US Democrats pick Obama veteran for chairman

Democrats in the US have elected former Labor Secretary Tom Perez as their chairman.

The veteran of the Obama administration is facing a daunting task of rebuilding the party – and heading up the opposition to Republican President Donald Trump.

Perez was picked over Keith Ellison, a liberal from Minnesota.

Congratulations to Thomas Perez, who has just been named Chairman of the DNC. I could not be happier for him, or for the Republican Party!
