The FIS has only one city event on its season’s ski roster, the Women and Men’s parallel slalom, and Stockholm has the honour to hold the finals.

Twenty-one-year-old American Mikaela Shiffrin came to town looking for her eight World Cup win of the season she has dominated from the start

She duly edged out Veronika Velez Zuzulova to take the maximum 100 points and improve her overall lead to 180 over Switzerland’s Laura Gut.

The Slovakian Zuzulova stays in second place in the slalom standings, and eighth overall.

In the men’s competition the names were not so stellar, but 24-year-old German Linus Strasser may be about to change all that as he denied Alexis Pinturault his fifth win of he season in a nailbiting run.

Britain’s Dave Ryding, fast making a name for himself in the sport, finished fourth.
