Austria wants tighter borders with Slovakia

Austria has outlined new measures to restrict the number of migrants entering the country.

Defense Minister Hans-Peter Doskozil and Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka have called for a tightening of the border with Slovakia, the latest entry point being used by people smugglers.

“We have to intensify railway controls at the border with Slovakia. The German and Austrian interior ministers are meeting in Berlin ahead of the February 8 negotiations with interior and defense ministers from across Central Europe.

Border controls along the “Balkan Route” will be high on the agenda.

Austria raised eyebrows when it blocked the route to prevent migrants crossing into the EU.
