Officials say deadly twin blasts in the Afghan capital appear to have targeted MPs.

At least 30 people have been killed and some 80 are believed to be injured following the explosions near the offices of the parliament in Kabul.

The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Ministry confirmed its ambassador to Afghanistan was injured in the attack.

A suicide bomber reportedly blew himself up, followed immediately afterwards by a car bomber, in what authorities say seems to have been a coordinated operation.

The Afghan Taliban has claimed the attacks. It has been battling to overthrow the country’s western-backed government and to drive out foreign troops.

It follows a period of relative calm in Kabul.
