With good weather conditions to send them off, 88 yachts have set sail from the Sydney Harbour on Monday for the 72nd edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
The Australian race is a Boxing Day tradition that starts in Sydney and takes sailors on a 628 nautical mile race which will end near Hobart, Tasmania.
Skippered by Mark Richards, race record holder Wild Oats XI, the most successful yacht in the event’s history, will try to capture a stunning 9th title.
However, 2015 winner Balance will be one to watch, as skipper Paul Clitheroe will try to hold on to the title for a second year in a row.
The fleet is heading down the challenging waters of the South Wales coastline, and crossing the Bass Strait, before finishing in Hobart, Tasmania on Wednesday.
