The Association of National Olympic Committees honored the best Olympians of the Rio games at a glittering banquet in Doha, Qatar.
The best female Olympic athlete award went to the Puerto Rican tennis gold medalist Monica Puig I would like to thank ANOC for this incredible honour. I would like to thank the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee for always standing by my side throughout these years. It’s been an incredible ride, so thank you so much. A big thank you to my team, my friends, my family for being with me during this incredible journey. I know it hasn’t been easy and thank you for always sticking by my side. And lastly a big, big thank you for Puerto Rico.”

The South African 400 metres gold medalist “Wayde van Niekerk“https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayde_van_Niekerk: won the male award“It’s really been a privilege for myself just to represent my country and to go out there and represent my family and friends and ended up having a massive award like…. the Olympic 400-metre title and on that the world record. I’m really honoured and blessed to stand in front of you today and thank you so much for the opportunity.”
The best female team of Rio 2016 award went to Great Britain’s field hockey team, while the men’s team award went to Fiji’s rugby sevens team.
