At the World Travel Market 2016 in London, the leading event for the global travel industry, euronews spoke to Ildiko Mezo, UK Director at Hungarian Tourism, about how the Eastern European nation wants to become a Premium travel destination.
We really would like to become a top destination in Eastern Europe, that’s the ambition, that’s the goal for us. We try position ourselves as a premium destination. We still have very high average spending but not from all over the markets and we would like to turn that around. So Budapest should become the most visited city compared to for example Prague or Vienna but also reach up to the spending and that is a huge thing to do because the image of Hungary is the one of a cheap destination and we would like to fight this. We really have to showcase what are the services; the high-attractions, five-star hotels in Budapest, and the Michelin star restaurants and so on.
