Less than three months after taking over at Inter Milan coach Frank de Boer is out.

After just 14 games in charge, of which Inter lost seven, one of serie A’s big three lies 12th in the table. De Boer was Inter’s eighth coach since 2010, when Jose Mourinho won a champions league, Italian league and cup treble.

Former Lazio coach Stefano Pioli is the favourite to take over from the Dutchman, but until any permanent appointment is made youth team coach Stefano Vecchi will try to right the ship.

De Boer had previously won four Dutch titles in six years managing Ajax, but had no experience of either playing or coaching in Italy before landing the Inter job.

Inter is nearly 70% owned by Chinese electronics retailer Suning Commerce group
following the partial sale by a consortium led by Indonesian owner Erick Thohir in June.
