Paula Vilaplana, euronews: “Hello and welcome to The Corner. Atletico Madrid have celebrated the 50th anniversary of their famous stadium the Vicente Calderon in style. Diego Simeone’s men, who were up against Granada, arguably played their best game of the season so far.”
Carrasco shines as hosts go top
Former Barcelona forward Isaac Cuenca gave Granada a shock lead in the 18th minute with an impressive strike but Yannick Carrasco pulled Atletico in front with a superb hat-trick.
Nicolas Gaitan scored his first goal for Atletico two minutes after coming off the bench and struck again with ten minutes to go, while late goals from Angel Correa and midfielder Tiago completed the rout.
Los Colchoneros eventually won 7-1, giving them a major boost ahead of their next la Liga clash against Sevilla on the 23rd of October.

On the up this week is Yannick Carrasco who struck three times, becoming the first Belgian player to score a hat-trick in la Liga.
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, who was quick to hail his winger’s willingness to learn, is also on the up after his side’s great start to the season.
The current leaders scored seven goals as Guillermo Ochoa endured another dreadful afternoon. The Mexican goalkeeper, who also conceded seven goals with his national side in June, will be looking to bounce back when Granada next host Sporting.
Where would Atletico Madrid be without the one and only Diego Simeone? The Argentine, who joined in 2011, recently reiterated his commitment to the club. As well as leading them to their first La Liga title in 18 years in 2014, the King’s Cup and the Europa League, the 46-year-old has also forged a strong bond with his players.
Euro 2016 Golden Boot winner Antoine Griezmann, Atletico’s top scorer in the last two campaigns, announced just before the start of the season that he had called the coach before agreeing to sign a new contract with the Colchoneros.
