Paris on Thursday said a final farewell to French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel who died last month aged 86.
Joining family and friends at her funeral at Montparnasse cemetery in the capital was former French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin whose wife was a good friend of the late fashion genius.
Known as ‘The Queen of Knitwear’, Rykiel was famous for her brightly coloured, striped sweater dresses. Early adopters of her style included actresses Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve and Audrey Hepburn.
Rykiel always wore black but her flamboyant red hair was unmissable.
She had been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for many years before her death on August 25.
