Brazil’s suspended President Dilma Rousseff has robustly denied charges against here as she testified in her impeachment trial.

Accused of breaking budget laws, she denied wrongdoing, denouncing the process as a right-wing conspiracy.

Rousseff insisted that the charges against her were politically motivated and that only the Brazilian people had the right to change their president.

She also warned that the trial would pave the way for reversals of her policies around social justice and minority rights.

Her case for popular backing has been weakened by a deep recession and a huge corruption scandal involving state-run energy company Petrobras.
