World champion Gregory Gaultier and world number one Mohamed El Shorbagy were both dumped out of the Hong Kong Open on Thursday.

The pair, considered favourites going into the event, failed to deliver when it mattered most. Gaultier got off to a strong start but eventually surrendered his early lead as young sensation Fares Dessouky pulled off a huge upset.

Dessouky will now take on local favourite Max Lee for a place in the semis while Cameron Pilley will lock horns with Karim Abdel Gawad after stunning 2014 and 2015 winner Mohamed El Shorbagy.

The 33-year-old Australian, thrilled the crowd with his creativity and determination, saving a match ball in the fourth game before sealing an impressive 5 sets win in 1 hour and 31 minutes.
