Tunisian long distance swimmer Oussama Mellouli says it would be a dream come true if he were to win a third straight Olympic gold in Rio.

The 32-year old won the 1500 metres title in Beijing 2008 and 10 kilometre event in London 2012.

Rio will be his fifth Olympic Games participation.

Mellouli said: “Like I said it’s an adventure that lasts four years and every adventure is very different. For me, I’ve been to five Olympics and every time it’s a true honour. This one is extra special because I’m a flag bearer, my country and a lot of fans are relying on me to perform and hopefully bring home another medal. That would be a dream come true.”

US-based Mellouli added he is yet to decided whether or not he will participate in the 1500 metres pool event, but he will head into the men’s marathon swim on Tuesday, August 16 as odds on favourite.
