<p>Roger Federer has withdrawn from the Rio Olympics and will miss the end of the season in order to recover from knee surgery.</p> <p>The 17 time grand slam winner said he needed more time to recover in order to prolong his career.</p> <p>Her said on his website Federer said: ‘‘Considering all options after consulting with my doctors and my team, I have made the very difficult decision to call an end to my 2016 season as I need more extensive rehabilitation following my knee surgery earlier this year., if he wants to prolong his career.’‘</p> <p>The 34-year-old, who is widely regarded as the best player to have graced the courts, has never won an Olympic singles title.</p> <p>He lost to Britain’s Andy Murray in the final at London 2012.</p>
