Reigning Dakar champion Stéphane Peterhansel produced yet another flawless run to clinch the shortened Kostanay -Astana stage, taking the overall lead in this year’s Silk Way Rally.

Starting 8th, the 50-year-old and his co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret dominated their opponents from the outset, en route to a convincing win ahead of Valdimir Vaselyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov.

Sebastien Loeb is currently sitting third ahead of Aidyn Rakhimbayev and co-driver Anton Nikolaev in their MINI ALL4 Racing.

Yesterday’s overall leaders Cyril Despres and David Castera endured a disappointing day and had to settle for 10th place. This result sees them sit fourth in the overall standings, 3 minutes and 59 seconds behind the leader.

Russia’s Edouard Nikolaev handed Kamaz another stage win in the trucks category . The overall leader was closely followed by Dutch driver Pascal De Baar and China’s Hou Hongning.
