A gunman has shot dead two bailiffs and wounded two others, including a deputy sheriff at a courthouse in the US state of Michigan.

Reports suggest the suspect, who was also killed, was an inmate who grabbed one of the officers guns.

The attack took place in the town of St Joseph around 160 kilometres east of Chicago.

‘‘A person has shot two bailiffs. They are both deceased and shot a deputy sheriff who is at the hospital right now being treated in the emergency room,’‘ Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey said.

The latest shooting in the US comes only days after a sniper targeted police officers in Dallas.

Gunman, Micah Johnson, told police he wanted to kill white police officers because he was angry about recent law enforcement shootings of black men.
