Hello and welcome to Speed. Lewis Hamilton is the man of the moment in the Formula 1 World Championship. The Englishman won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for the third year in a row and has now four wins in the last five races.

Torrential rain caused chaos on the grid before the race got underway. It meant it had to be started with a safety car. Lewis Hamilton finished all three practice sessions and qualified top.

From the start he looked to continue that form and was in control on the drying circuit. It was comfortable for him with his closest rival Nico Rosberg unable to catch him.

On lap 47 Rosberg had gearbox problems. He dropped off the pace and lost almost two seconds on Hamilton.

He crossed the line second but was handed a 10 second penalty for an illegal radio transmission and relegated to third. It meant Max Verstappen was second.

Nico Rosburg’s championship lead over Hamilton is down to one point.

“It’s never plain sailing that’s why the British GP is the best.,” quipped Hamilton after his win.
