Initial reports suggest extremists were behind the blast near a school in Kishoregonj, 140 kilometres north west of the capital, Dhaka.
People had gathered in the area to celebrate Eid – the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
ISIL warning
The explosion comes after an ISIL warning of repeated attacks in Bangladesh and further afield.
The group said in a video that last week’s attack on a cafe in Dhaka, in which 20 people were killed, was merely a glimpse of what is to come.
